Vice Minister Pietrewicz attends Polish-Japanese meeting on clean coal technologies

    - Raising efficiency of coal energy production is one of the main priorities of the Polish electric power industry – said Vice Minister of economy Jerzy Witold Pietrewicz in his opening speech during the Polish-Japanese Discussion Panel on Clean Coal Technologies. The panel, an accompanying event to the presidential visit to Tokyo, was organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Tokyo, Ministry of Economy, and The University of Tokyo.

The main goal of the meeting was to examine the possibilities of using a new brown coal drying technology by the Polish energy industry. This technology is the child of a 2-year long cooperative research carried out by AGH University of Science and Technology and The University of Tokyo. Combining it with Japanese know-how on clean coal could allow the Polish industry to significantly raise  efficiency of power plants, including those using lignite.

Vice Minister Pietrewicz also pointed out the relentless commitment of our country to fighting the climate change, and that the cooperation with Japan on clean coal technology is a great example in this regard.

The meeting was also attended by representatives of the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), The New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), members of boards of directors of Polish and Japanese companies of the energy sectors, Polish Investments for Development, The National Centre for Research and Development, and scientists from both countries.
